Universal Pictures gave fans a first look at 'Jurassic World Rebirth,' which will star actors Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali and Jonathan Bailey.

The Jurassic World franchise will continue next summer with the release of "Jurassic World Rebirth," and Universal Pictures gave fans a first look at the film's new logo and cast.

The movie, which is scheduled to hit theaters in July 2025, will have different actors leading the franchise. Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali and Jonathan Bailey will star in the new film, while actors Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard starred in the previous three Jurassic World entries.

"This action-packed new chapter sees an intrepid team racing to secure DNA samples from the three most colossal creatures across land, sea and air," according to the movie's official summary.

"Jurassic World Rebirth" is directed by Gareth Edwards, who previously directed "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story," and takes place five years after the events of "Jurassic World Dominion."

"The planet’s ecology has proven largely inhospitable to dinosaurs," the movie's summary says. "Those remaining exist in isolated equatorial environments with climates resembling the one in which they once thrived. The three most colossal creatures within that tropical biosphere hold the key to a drug that will bring miraculous life-saving benefits to humankind."

Who are the new 'Jurassic World Rebirth' characters?
Johansson will play a skilled covert operations expert named Zora Bennett, according to the studio. She will be hired in the film to lead the team extracting DNA from the "three most gargantuan dinosaur species left alive."

Ali plays Zora’s partner, Duncan Kincaid, while Bailey plays a paleontologist named Dr. Henry Loomis, Universal Pictures said.

In the first official photos from the film, Johansson's and Bailey's characters watch something through tall grass, while Ali's character holds a flare and appears to be screaming.

Heather Graham is opening up about being on the outs from her family for nearly 30 years.

The "Austin Powers" actress got candid about her family battles in a Wall Street Journal essay published Thursday, writing that "home and schools weren't happy places growing up." She wrote about her F.B.I. agent dad James' disapproval of her Hollywood career.

"He regularly told me that the entertainment industry was evil, and that Hollywood would claim my soul if I became an actress and appeared in anything with sexual content," she wrote, adding that her "parents were part of a generation that didn’t believe in therapy or discussing personal things, so I never felt I could talk to them."

In the piece, Graham, 54, details moving from a Washington, D.C. suburb to Agoura Hills, California, at 9 years old, where she said she didn't "fit in." In the piece, she opened up about shopping at discount clothing stores, where her mom chose her outfits, and feeling like an outcast at school.

"I looked like a 40-year-old woman when I was 15," Graham wrote before telling readers she moved out of her parents' home at 18 after the release of her breakout movie "License to Drive."

"I said to myself, 'I’ve got to get out of here, I’ve got to be successful, and I’ve got to be a movie star,'" Graham said in WSJ about her "freeing" move into a West Hollywood apartment with a high school classmate.

Despite her long career, Graham's disagreements with her parents over Hollywood led to a sad ending.

'Deadpool & Wolverine' deleted scene teases this scene-stealing character could return

Channing Tatum isn't finished making a name for himself.

Ryan Reynolds took to Instagram Tuesday to share a deleted scene from Marvel's "Deadpool & Wolverine" featuring more of Tatum in his scene-stealing role of Gambit. The scene also confirmed that Tatum's character survived the events of the film, suggesting he could return in a future project.

The extra moment takes place after the fight sequence in which Deadpool, Wolverine, Gambit and other heroes take on Cassandra Nova's (Emma Corrin) forces. In the new clip, Gambit is seen in the aftermath of the fight. As he turns around, orange light reflecting on his face indicates that a portal has appeared in front of him, implying he is about to escape from the Void.

"*whispers* Marvel Sparkle Circle," Reynolds captioned the clip, referencing the playful name for Doctor Strange's portals in the film. The actor also revealed that a "version" of this scene is already in the film playing in the "deep background" on one of the monitors at the Time Variance Authority headquarters.

In "Deadpool & Wolverine," the title heroes are sent to a "void" at the end of time, where various Marvel characters from other universes have ended up. One of them is Gambit, played by Tatum in a surprise appearance.

For years, the "Magic Mike" actor was expected to star in a Gambit movie that never happened, so "Deadpool & Wolverine" allowed him to finally suit up in the role after that project fell apart.

Since "Deadpool & Wolverine" debuted and was a massive hit at the box office, Tatum has said he hopes this will not be a one-off appearance. On "The Tonight Show," the actor joked he would "kill kittens" if it meant he would be able to star in a Gambit solo movie.

"I would do lots of terrible things to make that happen," he quipped.

Tatum previously reflected on X that after his Gambit film was canceled, he thought he had lost the role forever until Reynolds recruited him for "Deadpool & Wolverine."

"(Reynolds) fought for me and Gambit," Tatum wrote. "I will owe him probably forever. Cause I'm not sure how I could ever do something that would be equal to what this has meant to me. I love ya buddy."

On Friday, Reynolds revealed another scene that was cut from the film, which featured a cameo from "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" star Rob McElhenney as a TVA soldier.

"While editing a movie, they say you 'sometimes have to kill your darlings,'" Reynolds said on Instagram. "And with a heavy heart (and through great outside intervention) I had to kill a darling with this cameo…"

Dennis Quaid doesn't think a 'Parent Trap' revival is possible without Natasha Richardson

Dennis Quaid is on board with a "The Parent Trap" revival — but the movie wouldn't be the same without a key character.

"That would be fantastic, but Natasha (Richardson). How do we do it without Natasha?" he told Entertainment Tonight on the red carpet of his new film "Reagan" on Tuesday. Her sudden death at 45 years old in 2009 still "breaks my heart," he added.

In the 1998 remake of the original "The Parent Trap" released in 1961, Quaid and Richardson played the parents of identical twins Annie and Hallie (played by Lindsay Lohan) who contrived a plot that brought the exes back together. Lisa Ann Walter — who recently said she'd "love to go back for another version" of the movie — played nanny Chessy, and Elaine Hendrix portrayed Quaid's villainous fiancée, Meredith Blake.

Lohan "is really fantastic. She's grown into a beautiful person," Quaid said.

"'The Parent Trap' was, like, a whole new career for me," he continued. "It's such a beautiful movie. And I think people will be watching that 100 years from now, I really do."

Richardson died after a seemingly minor fall that led to a blow to the head while skiing at Quebec’s Mont Tremblant. The actress initially waved off medical care, but the head injury turned out to be fatal. She was survived by her husband, actor Liam Neeson, and their sons Micheál and Daniel, who were then 13 and 12, respectively.

Richardson was part of the prominent Redgrave family, the daughter of Oscar, Emmy, Tony and Golden Globe winner Vanessa Redgrave and director Tony Richardson.

“When that accident happened, it just devastated me and so many other people,” Quaid told Us Weekly in 2018. “She had such a beautiful love, married life with Liam, and two beautiful boys. She always had a smile on her face when she came to work. That really affected everyone around her.”

"Without this movie, I wouldn't have gotten the acting bug. How do you not want to only act for the rest of your life after doing a film like this?" Lohan said in the video. "It's timeless and special. Just really special." 

The 26-year-old Disney film popped back up in Lohan's life in an unexpected way earlier this year when she caught her infant son Luai watching it on TV, she revealed on “The Drew Barrymore Show” in March.

"I just started to cry because I'm like, he doesn't even know that's mommy yet,” Lohan said. “I was like, do I turn it off? And he was kind of just staring. Because maybe my voice is still similar to how it was then, so I was like, maybe he knows a little bit that it's me ‘cause it sounds like me. But it was a really magical moment. Spoiler alert! We're discussing the ending of the new movie “Blink Twice” (in theaters now). Beware if you haven't seen it yet.

Beyoncé doesn’t give her music to just anyone.

But the pop supernova made an exception for Zoë Kravitz, who skillfully deploys a fan-favorite “Renaissance” track during the bloody finale of her provocative new thriller “Blink Twice.”

The film follows a social climber named Frida (Naomi Ackie), who takes an impromptu vacation with billionaire Slater King (Channing Tatum) and his hard-partying posse. But their exotic island paradise gradually turns into a cult-like nightmare, as Frida discovers that Slater and his male cohorts have been drugging and assaulting the women in the group to assert their dominance.

When the women wake up to the men's abuse, they kill them off one by one. And at the end of the film, Frida teams up with new friend Sarah (Adria Arjona) to take revenge on Slater. Armed with knives, they stride into his palatial compound, soundtracked by the woozy opening thrums of Beyoncé’s “I’m That Girl.”

Frida and Slater tussle on the floor, knocking over candles and burning the mansion to the ground. But rather than let him go up in flames, Frida saves the corrupt tech CEO, and with the help of some memory-wiping substances, blackmails him for his fortune. And in the film's final scene, she hosts a swanky gala of her own.

Why Zoë Kravitz chose Beyoncé's 'I'm That Girl' for the ending of 'Blink Twice'

The hypnotic “I’m That Girl,” with its rousing declaration of “ain’t stopping me,” was perfect for the movie’s empowering climax.

“I did not think we were going to get that song,” Kravitz says. “We did not have a lot of money for music. But we sent it to Beyoncé and her team, and they were so kind and responsive. She did not see the whole film, but she saw a clip of that part, and said ‘yes’ and was so supportive. I really couldn’t believe when we found out that we got it. It has such a major impact on the film ... it adds this whole meta, girl-power moment.”

Kravitz says she considered “so many” songs for that scene, including another iconic Beyoncé hit: “Crazy in Love” featuring Jay-Z. But “nothing was even close” to “I’m That Girl.”

A new take on the gothic superhero has come to theaters with Bill Skarsgård, who most notably played Pennywise in the "It" movies, as the supernatural protagonist really into eyeliner and black leather. (Fun fact: Like those Marvel do-gooders, The Crow also first appeared in a comic book!) The summer movie season might be coming to a close, but at least it's ending in interesting fashion, because Channing Tatum is playing a Me Too-era tech bro in a new psychological thriller and we've got a new No. 1 on the best 2024 movies leaderboard.

Now on to the good stuff:

See 'The Crow' return to the big screen with Bill Skarsgård and FKA Twigs

Did we really need another version of "The Crow"? Probably not. The 1994 action thriller was a super-stylish, seminal flick of the grunge era, with the talented Brandon Lee as a resurrected musician on a mission of revenge and a tragic backstory that's overshadowed the film over three decades. (It's also streaming on Prime Video if you've never seen it.) The new reboot is definitely a different sort of experience, an ultra-violent affair with Skarsgård in the title role and FKA Twigs as the murdered girlfriend our hero is trying to bring back to life. “It’s quite beautifully broken, but it’s real and it’s deep and it’s instant," Twigs says of the romance in my colleague Patrick Ryan's new profile of the Grammy-nominated singer.

But for movie fans of a certain age, any mention of "The Crow" automatically brings up memories of the accidental shooting death of Lee on the original film's set in 1993. My pal Erin Jensen wrote up an explainer of what happened back then and how new "Crow" director Rupert Sanders insisted on no live-firing weapons during filming: "It's just not worth the risk."

Let's pour one out for the demise of Bennifer 2.0. At least one Hollywood couple is still going strong: Tatum stars in his fiancée Zoë Kravitz's directorial debut "Blink Twice" as a disgraced but charming billionaire who invites a cater waiter (Naomi Ackie) to his private island for a never-ending party with friends. The booze and drugs are fun, but after experiencing blackouts and other weirdness, she uncovers the sinister truth of the place in an edgy and often darkly funny tale. (Did you dig C-Tates' "Deadpool" cameo as Gambit? Catch him here in maybe his most unsettling role ever.)

Inspired by the “rage and confusion” she was feeling in the wake of the Me Too movement, Kravitz explains to Patrick how she wanted to explore power dynamics between genders. “Women are expected to pretend like we're OK when we're not,” she says. “We are expected to smile, to make everybody else comfortable, and to forget. I was trying to find a way to highlight how bizarre that request is.”

"Dune: Part Two" had a nice run as the best movie of the year, but now that spot belongs to "Sing Sing," a moving and truly excellent prison drama – and the first 2024 flick that really screams "best picture contender." Recent Oscar nominee Colman Domingo gives another award-worthy performance as Divine G, a man incarcerated for a crime he didn't commit who recruits a hardened fellow convict (Clarence "Divine Eye" Maclin) into the prisoner theatrical troupe that brings him creative joy. If you haven't had the pleasure, go to the "Sing Sing" website, find your city and score a free ticket to see it at participating AMC theaters.

The movie was based on a theater program for inmates at New York’s Sing Sing Correctional Facility, and Patrick interviewed real-life members who star in the film – and returned to a jail setting to make "Sing Sing" – including Maclin and Sean “Dino” Johnson. Maclin admits "there was a lot of apprehension" in going back to a prison space, while Johnson adds, "My whole mindset was, ‘This is a choice. This is not mandatory. This is not punishment. The doors are open and I can walk out whenever.’ "

These men went back to prison to make a movie. But this time, 'I can walk out whenever.'

In 2005, a maximum security prison staged the greatest play you’ve never seen.

“Breakin’ the Mummy’s Code” was the brainchild of Rehabilitation Through the Arts (RTA), a theater program for incarcerated men at New York’s Sing Sing Correctional Facility. The original musical was written and performed entirely by the group, who played gladiators, mummies, cowboys and pirates in the ingenious time-traveling romp.

“During the course of our day, we didn’t really have a lot of reasons to smile,” says Clarence “Divine Eye” Maclin, who portrayed Hamlet and Robin Hood in the production. “Coming together at those times – and watching everybody let their guard down and be silly – those are the great moments I remember about creating this particular play.”

The musical’s conception is now the backdrop for “Sing Sing” (in theaters nationwide Friday), a stirring new film starring Colman Domingo as the real-life John “Divine G” Whitfield, who spent nearly 25 years behind bars on a wrongful homicide conviction. The movie traces Whitfield’s decades-long fight for clemency, as well as his involvement in RTA.

Director/co-writer Greg Kwedar learned about the program through a Google search, stumbling upon a 2005 Esquire article by John H. Richardson titled “The Sing Sing Follies.” He was instantly drawn to the stark contrast between prison life and the insanity of “Mummy’s Code.”

“There was something about the playfulness of the work itself, juxtaposed with the environment it was in, that felt like the full human experience,” Kwedar says. “It was joyous; it was the energy of it.”

Save for a few professional actors, including Paul Raci (“The Sound of Metal&rdquo, the movie’s cast is comprised almost entirely of formerly incarcerated men. Sean “Dino” Johnson served 15 years at Sing Sing on a drug-related charge and was released in 2004. He was a founding member of RTA, and jumped at the opportunity to flex his acting muscles again.

“I’ve been home now 20 years and I had to pay the bills. I didn’t have time to live my dream and do the acting thing,” Johnson says. “So when Greg offered that opportunity, I was like, ‘You know what? Now’s the perfect time.’ ”

For Maclin, it was similarly “a no-brainer.” He spent 17 years at Sing Sing for robbery and was released in 2012. Since then, he says that RTA has been approached about many film and TV projects, but none of them felt “genuine.”

“Every time we talked to someone, it felt like they were going to use us,” Maclin says. “They just wanted to be able to say they helped some poor prisoners, so they could go home and sleep well at night.” But he didn’t get that feeling with Kwedar and his co-writer, Clint Bentley: “They were sincere about their endeavors and what they wanted to do.”

Both Maclin and Whitfield received a story credit on the film, and helped to ensure that the dialogue was authentic to a prison setting. Kwedar also hired an on-set therapist, in case any of the men felt triggered during production. (The movie was shot at Downstate Correctional Facility, where many cast members passed through on their way to Sing Sing.)

The "Bennifer" love story that first blossomed more than two decades ago has come to an end.

On Tuesday, Jennifer Lopez, 55, filed to divorce Ben Affleck, 52, in Los Angeles Superior Court, according to court filings obtained by USA TODAY. Tuesday marked the second anniversary of the estranged couple's Georgia wedding ceremony. TMZ and Variety report their date of separation as April 26.

TMZ was first to report the news. USA TODAY has reached out to reps for Affleck and Lopez for comment.

This was the second marriage for Affleck and the fourth for Lopez. The two were engaged to each other twice: first in 2002 then again in 2021.

Lopez's filing comes after several months of fan and media speculation as she and Affleck started appearing in public solo.

At the May 6 Met Gala in New York City, Affleck was absent as Lopez performed her duties as one of the event's co-chairs. The night prior, Affleck participated in Netflix's "The Greatest Roast of All Time: The Roast of Tom Brady" in Los Angeles, and Lopez did not seem to be in attendance.

The separate appearances happened while Lopez was reportedly filming "Kiss of the Spider Woman" in New Jersey and Affleck was in Los Angeles filming "The Accountant 2."

On May 16, Lopez and Affleck were photographed together for the first time in over a month, each spotted wearing their wedding rings. Since then, they have been spotted together a handful of times while also reportedly no longer living together.

Ryan Reynolds is paying a long-awaited tribute to Rob Delaney's late son.

The "Deadpool & Wolverine" producer and star took to Instagram Monday to explain why the tribute to Delaney's 2-year-old son Henry came now rather than in "Deadpool 2." Henry died in February 2018, months before the second "Deadpool" film was released.

"There's more to @robdelaney than some realize," Reynolds, 47, captioned a carousel of movie and set photos featuring himself Delaney, 47, as Peterpool (aka Sugar Bear) and Hugh Jackman's Wolverine. The "Catastrophe" actor wrote about losing his son in the book "A Heart That Works," with Reynolds calling him a "beautiful, acerbic and vulnerable writer."

Reynolds then recalled Delaney losing his son "right after" they finished shooting "Deadpool 2."

"If you stayed through the credits of Deadpool & Wolverine, you might notice a credit saying, 'For Henry Delaney,'" Reynolds continued. "I've always kicked my own ass because I didn't place a tribute to Henry over the end credits of DP2."

The tribute comes as "Deadpool & Wolverine" earned $211 million at the domestic box office its opening weekend and broke several records, including the largest opening for an R-rated movie. "If there's a bright side, even more people are seeing Henry's name in the credits of Deadpool & Wolverine," Reynolds said.

Reynolds spoke about Delaney's memoir, recalling the author's unique perspective on losing a loved one.

"Rob has a vivid perspective on unimaginable grief. And he takes an unfiltered, rage-ful, loving, sad and hilarious (yes, HILARIOUS) look at grief through his book," the "If" star gushed.

"I'm lucky to know Rob. And I'm lucky to have friends willing to put themselves on the line to make others feel less alone," said Reynolds.

In "Deadpool & Wolverine," Delaney plays Peterpool aka Peter Wisdom, a friend and co-worker of Reynolds' Wade Wilson and former member of the mutant superhero team X-Force, led by Deadpool and Cable, despite his lack of powers or skills.

The third of the actor's four sons with wife Leah Delaney died following a battle with brain cancer.

Delaney told USA TODAY in 2022 that the hoped the memoir would help parents and siblings who have suffered similar losses. He also pledged his earnings to children's hospices.

"I know I've benefited from my bereaved parents groups that I go to," he said at the time. "So if I am honest about my experience with somebody whose kid died three weeks ago or six months ago, that's going to help them. I know having the book out there is good. Aspects of getting the book out there are painful for me, but I'm willing to do it to get the book to people who need it.”

Kirsten Dunst is bringing on the early 2000s nostalgia.

The "Spider-Man" star, 42, on Saturday attended a screening of her classic cheerleading movie "Bring It On" — and even more than 20 years later, she still remembered the lines.

In a video that Dunst shared on Instagram, she was seen clapping along while reciting the memorable cheer that opens the movie, which was released in 2000.

Another video shared on TikTok showed the actress delivering remarks at the screening in Los Angeles, which paired "Bring It On" with another Dunst movie, Sofia Coppola's "The Virgin Suicides."

"I'm T-T-Torrance!" Dunst told the audience, quoting the movie. "Your captain Torrance!"

Dunst starred as cheerleader Torrance Shipman in "Bring It On" alongside Eliza Dushku and Gabrielle Union. She told the cheering crowd she was "so overwhelmed" and was there with her friends and family to watch the movies with an audience for the first time since she was a teenager.

The actress was 17 when she starred in "Bring It On," which grossed $90 million at the box office and spawned numerous sequels. It was directed by Peyton Reed, who went on to helm Marvel's "Ant-Man" trilogy.

Speaking to "Good Morning America" earlier this year, Dunst said she was "just as shocked as anyone" that "Bring It On" was such a success and confirmed she would be interested returning for a potential reunion.

Colman Domingos prison drama Sing Sing

Colman Domingo knows the healing power of art.

The day after his mother died in 2006, he auditioned for the rock musical “Passing Strange,” which dealt with the loss of a parent and marked his second Broadway outing.

“That show is the reason why I’m still living,” Domingo says now. “It sounds dramatic, but that’s the truth.”

It’s partly why the Oscar-nominated actor was so drawn to “Sing Sing” (in theaters Friday in 40 cities, expanding nationwide Aug. 23). In the heart-wrenching new drama, he portrays the real-life John “Divine G” Whitfield, who spent more than 24 years behind bars after he was wrongfully convicted of murder. While imprisoned at New York’s Sing Sing Correctional Facility in 1996, Whitfield co-founded Rehabilitation Through the Arts (RTA), a theater group helping incarcerated people gain critical life skills through writing and performing plays.

“I would love for audiences to walk away with a deeper understanding of the complex humanity you can find in a prison setting," Whitfield says. "With the resiliency of the human spirit, you will be amazed at the things we can do.”

Domingo, 54, has plenty of experience playing real-life people, from civil rights activists Bayard Rustin and Ralph Abernathy to Joe Jackson, Michael Jackson’s father, in an upcoming MJ biopic. But “Sing Sing” was unlike anything he’d done before: Not only was he portraying someone who is still alive, but he was also acting alongside a cast of formerly incarcerated men, many of whom passed through Downstate Correctional Facility, where the movie was shot.

“The great challenge was to fold myself in with these men. I didn’t want to stand out as an actor,” Domingo says. “They’ve had their (acting) training, yet they were bringing a raw sensibility of their own lived experience being in institutions like Sing Sing. It shaped my work in a unique way, and that’s why it’s hard for me to watch. It feels emotionally threadbare; I feel more vulnerable than I’ve ever been.”

The film traces Whitfield’s friendship with Clarence “Divine Eye” Maclin (playing himself), a reluctant recruit to the RTA program. It also depicts Whitfield's yearslong battle to prove his innocence: In a devastating scene set at a clemency hearing, he extolls the positive impact theater has had on his life. “Are you acting right now?” a parole officer asks incredulously, leaving him dumbfounded.
“That’s taken straight out of my parole board transcripts,” Whitfield recalls. “The way Colman hit that mark is just how I responded. I think he could win an Academy Award for that one scene alone.”

Domingo spoke with Whitfield a few times over Zoom before shooting started. The actor wasn’t interested in capturing specific mannerisms, but rather Whitfield’s essence: the way his eyes lit up when he spoke about his dance background, or recounted his days in the library poring through law books, “advocating for others as well as his own liberation.”

“I thought, ‘That’s an incredibly hopeful human being, who still believes the system can work – the same system that helped him be wrongly accused of a crime and landed him in prison,’” Domingo says. “When I observed that fullness of a human being, I was able to make decisions on how he moves through spaces and where his heart is."

Whitfield, meanwhile, calls the casting “a dream come true,” as a longtime fan of Domingo’s work in TV series such as “Fear the Walking Dead.” He remembers being “starstruck” and “babbling” during their first in-person meeting, where they bonded over their upbringings and tastes in food.

Vince Vaughn may be a Walk of Fame-certified star, but the role of dad remains No. 1.

The SAG-nominated actor was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Monday. In a rare appearance, Vaughn and wife Kyla Weber were joined by their children Locklyn, 13, and Vernon, 11.

Vaughn, who wore a charcoal suit with a white tee and sneakers, posed alongside Weber and their children in front of his newly minted star. Locklyn kept it simple in a white sun dress, while brother Vernon – who held a plaque of Vaughn's star – donned a crisp navy-blue suit.

During his speech at the ceremony, Vaughn gave his "beautiful wife" Weber a sweet shoutout for her support.

"So glad that you're with me on this now," he said. "I'm so grateful for you and for these beautiful kids and for all the laughter that we share together."

Vaughn and Weber married in 2010. They reportedly welcomed daughter Locklyn in December 2010, followed by son Vernon in 2013.

The "Wedding Crashers" star also paid tribute to his children and their impact on his life in his Walk of Fame speech.

About ten years ago I went on my first trip to Las Vegas with a few co-workers, $300, and a very naive plan to find a wife that would pay for my expensive lifestyle. After checking into our hotel and settling into the pool we were excited to find out that E! was taping their variety show live from our very location all week. The problem with working at night and sleeping all day is that once the camera starts rolling you will be told by the director that your pale, skinny, white frame is severely disrupting the white balance and asked to find a pool more suited for people who went to their prom “stag”. So, after getting out of the water, surrounded by people who are tanner and prettier than I could ever be I made a silent promise to myself that I would prove to those dickheads at E! that I, Jefferson Vanbilliard was not a pale, slack jawed hill billy but rather a super fit, tan, man child who sometimes gets mistaken for a young Zach Morris.

I’m not sure if La Vida Verde has done extensive research on whether or not their 100mg Lemon Pie edible super cookies have the ability to awaken horrible memories you have buried deep inside your subconscious but for some reason I couldn’t stop thinking about Giuliana Rancic’s dead eyes glaring at me as I desperately tried to wade out of that pungent cesspool they called a stage. I entered the pink and white offices to find myself surrounded by the steady glares of no less than six women. As sweat slowly began to form on the small of my back I met each of their eyes individually, slowly blinking and making no sudden movements as to not spook them or show weakness. I was out of my own comfort zone and could hear the distinct sounds of freshly hardened wax being ripped off of some woman’s body somewhere nearby.

One thing every daily cannabis user can attest to is that being faded in a new situation can be a bit overwhelming at times. I once had to talk myself down from an anxiety attack due to a crowded DMV and some questionably potent flowers, and undressing in front of someone I don’t know and letting them spray god knows what on my body sounded like the worst idea ever in my current state. As I stood there in a pool of my own regret and self doubt I knew It was too late, I’d already reached the point of no return.

After no less than ten minutes spent inside the brown stained tent my golden glow had already begun to appear. As I stepped out of that office I was confident with my new look, and as I made my way towards the nearest restaurant to quell my cannabis induced hunger I knew I had to test drive my lastest complexion. For my experiment I knew a mid afternoon beer would not only help ease the high from those potent cookies but also serve as an excuse to test my theory. So I stood there, looking like Macaulay Culkin with slightly less melanin, while I slowly drank my beer and made eye contact with a woman that I once liked but never got further than a quick dinner with. We exchanged a few pleasantries and I made up something about needing to “get home” so I could feed a non existent dog. I knew the spray tan had done its magic when I received a text message shortly after saying that “it was SO good seeing you”. Yeah right, I thought. I knew the real reason, it was the tan.

New State Bill Could Add Hundreds of Dispensaries to OC

Somewhere in Santa Ana, nestled between quiencenera shops and expensive cafes, lies a nondescript door. Behind it is one of Orange County’s many illegal dispensaries, operating daily without permits, lab-tested products or the proper taxes applied to the final cost. The Santa Ana Planning Commission, which aims to empower local businesses while promoting safety and education through community programs, is aware of the problems caused by the cannabis black market, though attempts at shutting them down has been likened to plugging a dam with your finger and hoping for the best.

In Sacramento, state lawmakers rolled out a new legislative measure intended to confront the bigger issue that fuels the illegal cannabis market: cities that refuse to allow legal sales despite overwhelming voter approval. Assembly Bill 1356 would add an additional 2,200 cannabis storefronts to the current 631 legal dispensaries located throughout the state. The bill would require each city to add a storefront for every 10,000 residents, or one cannabis retailer for every four liquor stores, whichever is fewer.

However, some cities already oppose the measure, citing the need to amend specific sections of the law that would require municipalities that already have permitted cannabis sales to vote again.

Assemblyman Phil Ting (D-San Francisco), the author of AB 1356, feels that this conversation is long overdue. “It’s unfortunate that the cities and the counties really haven’t fulfilled the will of the voters to provide legal access under Proposition 64,” he said.

It’s hard to blame dispensaries that operate illegally when you look at the number of people who voted in favor of legal cannabis versus the cities that actually make it available. Aliso Viejo, where 58 percent of the community voted yes on Proposition 64, only allows private, indoor growing and that’s only if you apply for a permit. Costa Mesa, Irvine and Anaheim, where voters also embraced the idea of cannabis retailers, have yet to allow brick and mortar shops to open.

So until we see an amended version of AB 1356, or cities at least welcome the idea of home delivery as a viable option, it appears the black market will continue to thrive. We will continue to report on this issue as it develops.
