Madonna Is The Life Of The Party
Is your party complete without Madonna? The singer joined a host of other celebrities including her eldest daughter Lourdes at the Burberry Lola Bag unveiling last week. The unofficial theme of the night was all-black and the Like a Prayer singer dressed the part in her below-the-knee-length coat, booties, sheer stockings, and a shoulder bag combo.
Underneath her coat, Madonna wore a skintight bodysuit showing off her curves and paired it with half-finger mittens.
Rare Mother/Daughter Moment
As the night went by, Madonna took off her coat to reveal the mini figure-hugging dress worn underneath as she hugged her child. Lourdes closed her eyes in excitement, savoring the moment while wrapping her arms around her mom in her oversized quilted jacket.
The model, whose nickname is coincidentally Lola carried the chain strap pouch in a matching black shade and wore a dark rosy pink lipstick. Lola's face contrasted with Madonna's, who wore a light rose pink lipstick and oversized frame sunglasses, but the resemblance remains uncanny.
A Night To Remember
Other notable faces at the L.A. Party include Grammy-nominated artist Chloe Bailey, Burberry Creative Director Riccardo Tisci, Retired R&B singer Teyana Taylor, Brazilian singer Anitta, and RnB singer Tinashe, and more.
Bailey, Anitta, Taylor, and Tisci wore all-black outfits, with Bailey adding an extra flare on the lips ( black lipstick) and Taylor wearing dark sunshades. The best part about celebrity events like this is the unusual combination of people in a place at once. Even Madonna noted she met Erykah Badu for the first time at the event.
The Bag Of The Moment
The Lola Bag has a soft quilted body inspired by the signature Burberry Check, and the initials of Thomas Burberry are monogrammed on its face in Gold or Silver. It first entered the market in AW19 when creative director Riccardo Tisci introduced it to the market.
Lola comes in different shapes and sizes, from Medium bucket bags to Chain Strap pouches, lambskin crescent, camera bags, and a small shoulder bag.

Lourdes Leon Reminisces On Her First Love Timothée Chalamet
Lourdes Leon is finally ready to step into the spotlight. You may know her as the “anti-social” daughter of Pop Queen Madonna and Fitness Guru Carlos Leon. Well, Lola – as her friends call her – is more than just a celebrity kid.
Lola has been a dancer since the age of three. In a FaceTime interview, she tells Vanity Fair that her mother saw a talent in her which she nurtured. Lola is an alum of the prestigious Fiorella H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts.

When I was nine, I went through an obnoxious phase where I wore only purple (or some variation, like lilac) for a solid year. There was one particular outfit, consisting of crocodile print flared pants, a long sleeve top with a huge sparkly flower splashed across the front and chunky slip-on sneakers – all in a shade of purple, naturally – that neatly sums up two elements of fashion I still adore; colour and eclectic prints and patterns.
But the older I become, and the busier I get, the more appealing the idea of a uniform-like aesthetic is. In the fashion industry, this is what we’d call a ‘capsule wardrobe’. A wardrobe comprised of hard-working, multi-functional items that form the backbone of your everyday outfits.

So when it came time to figure out what I’d wear to this year’s PayPal Melbourne Fashion Festival, I decided to forgo the ‘fun’ element of my style and challenge myself: for the entirety of the Festival I would wear a monochromatic capsule wardrobe.
I have to admit, I was a little wary. If, like me, you feel your best in colour, then forgoing it entirely (even for a week) isn’t the most exciting proposition. But being the intrepid investigative journalist that I am – if you consider reviewing clit sucking vibrators intrepid journalism – I was up for the challenge.
When you’re going monochromatic, a key consideration to keep in mind is the quality and style of the garments. Where colour and pattern can hide all manner of sartorial sins, like an item being ill-fitting or poorly cut, when there’s nothing to look at but the garment itself, the fit and quality of it really matters. I knew I needed a brand that prioritised these elements, and thankfully capsule wardrobes are having a bit of a moment right now, something that made my search for the right one a lot easier.
Our collective interest in whittling down our wardrobes and approaching fashion in a more considered way has seen rental businesses like Rentr. launch capsule wardrobes, where you can hire a cohesive selection of pieces from brands like Scanlan Theodore and Camilla & Marc. At the higher end of spectrum is the Christina Centenera-founded label Wardrobe NYC, which offers four- and eight-piece capsule wardrobes.

After some light online shopping disguised as research, I was pleased to find that sustainably-minded Melbourne label Arnsdorf is now offering its own eight-piece capsule wardrobe. Described as “a contemporary edit of eight key Arnsdorf pieces”, the capsule is functional but sleek. I’m fond of a suit for work-related events, which the capsule includes, but what really sold me was the Claire Tee. It has a particularly interesting curved neckline, and I felt it would provide the injection of ‘fun’ I anticipated I’d be missing.

For many people, ‘business-minded’ and ‘professional’ aren’t words they associate with sex work. Then there’s Christina Faggiano, an Australian woman capitalising on the booming rebrand of sex work pioneered by subscription-based platform OnlyFans. Christina’s selling digital content of her body to not only pay her bills, but to launch a career in a notoriously competitive industry: fashion.
What differentiates OnlyFans from other commercial content sites in the market is its simplistic model that gives creators total control over the content they produce and the prices they set. The platform also offers profile anonymity, making it especially appealing to those looking to buy and sell sexually explicit content.

The site has exploded in popularity since the pandemic began, with the platform raking in $3 billion last year. 21-year-old Christina, who lives on her own and runs two small businesses (a lingerie label Made By Christina, and a fashion styling service) is currently making enough money on OnlyFans to live off.
“Financial [security] is definitely the main reason I started OnlyFans, but going through the pandemic and having all of my priorities either put on hold or shifting, kinda gave me the time to get what I really wanted out of my life,” she tells me.
“Some weeks I earn more than others, it really depends on how much attention you’re promoting on other social media platforms… but I make a healthy wage, enough for my lifestyle. I personally feel like, with OnlyFans, it gives me the freedom to earn an income and explore those different areas that interest me. During the pandemic, I was designing, sewing and modelling lingerie and it made me feel very sexy… ”
I spoke with her about navigating life as an OnlyFans creator, and how the fashion industry is colliding with sex work to offer her some exciting new business opportunities.
What kind of content do you create on OnlyFans?
I create a mixture of photo and video content, pay-per-view and point-of-view content as well. I never put myself in positions where I feel uncomfortable via requests and I only do what makes me feel in control and sexy.
How do you navigate your love life while being an OnlyFans content creator?
I was in a relationship before I started working on OnlyFans and it was such a hard thing to bring up, and talk about with my partner. The key to it was being really open and honest about what you’re doing. It’s definitely working out what your partner feels comfortable with, just being with someone that supports you and knows that you aren’t doing it for any other reason than business.
I’m very transparent with my partner about what I’m doing on OnlyFans. He’s subscribed, he knows what’s going on. He sees everything, he loves it, you know. Sometimes in the early days, he would get on board and make some appearances as well.
He’s also a creative and runs his own businesses, and he gets it. So yeah, I guess it’s just being with someone who’s quite like-minded to you and understands. At the end of the day, it’s just very clear if I’m communicating with my clients. There’s no flirting or sneaky behaviour – it’s business.
What’s your long-term career goal?
To be a designer and continue to develop my own brand as a creative. I want to continue to run an ethical [and] transparent fashion label where I am hand-making all of my garments. My true love and passion reside within being creative [and] designing and sewing. I also want to continue to work in other areas of the fashion industry such as editorial, personal and celebrity styling.
Where and what did you study?
I studied fashion throughout high school and had the privilege of being taught and mentored by a truly magnificent woman, Vicki Hobbs, who truly fostered and nurtured my love for fashion and design. She is someone I really look up to. She taught me how to be a great designer.
I was accepted into studying at the London College of Fashion after high school, but had to, unfortunately, put that on hold due to the pandemic starting in the world; it would not have been ideal for me to go. I did, for a time, plan to go back to study, but I feel I am learning more and more on my own by running my business and sewing for pleasure. I found you can get to far [away] places when you have the love, drive and intention to.
Do you ever worry that your career goals are going to collide with your OnlyFans world?
Oh, I used to worry all the time! I think that’s why I didn’t start sooner because I was really afraid that it would hold me back from doing more ‘professional’ roles, or being in roles in the career industry that people may look down on or not approve of someone who has either been or still is a sex worker, or participating or working in OnlyFans. Honestly, I’ve had more business opportunities within the fashion industry from companies that know I do OnlyFans.
For example, I work for a lingerie brand, I’ve done some modelling for them and they’ve seen some of my designs that I’m working on at the moment for Made by Christina. I’m doing a whole new collection where I’m steering away from the more soft satin materials and I’m using faux leathers. This brand was quite interested in me getting some samples into them and start stocking them potentially. That was a very big deal for me, which is really exciting.
Do you have any advice for people interested in creating on OnlyFans?
Even if it does ‘come back to haunt you’ be proud of yourself, own it. Just be proud. If someone asks “Is that you?’ just say “Yes, that’s me!” [and] own it. Just make sure you know what you’re doing and the kind of career pathway you want to take.
I know in some industries it’s a bit controversial so always be cautious. You don’t have to advertise your own name; you change your name, and you get to know your content and your audience. I would definitely say know your boundaries and don’t be afraid to take that leap.

Melbourne label Kahe is prioritising thoughtful tailoring

Eight years ago, Melbourne-based designer Kacy Heywood threw herself headfirst into a new creative endeavour; creating footwear and garments from scratch. Entirely self-taught, Kacy learnt the tricks of her trade by pulling apart discarded clothing and obsessively watching YouTube tutorials.
Had she known how difficult the process of establishing her label Kahe would be, she says she “would have never begun”. But it’s her unconventional approach to design that’s made her label successful and has helped her acquire an intimate knowledge of garment construction.

After years of blood, sweat and tears, Kacy is now able to support herself through Kahe and the Melbourne clothing store she co-founded and is the creative director of, Error 404.
Her multi-functional, exquisitely tailored designs are released in low volume amounts, and the popularity of her drops is a testament to the versatility and enduring appeal of her garments. Below, she shares her journey in establishing her label, and what’s exciting her in Australian and international fashion lately.
Tell us about you. What’s your fashion background?
I am a self-taught designer that started in footwear and then moved to garments and creative direction. My education process was through the execution of my label Kahe that I began eight years ago.
How did the label get started? Talk us through the process and the challenges.
Naivety and youth was a huge catalyst for the label! I was 25 and finally accepted myself as an individual. The realisation that I am the only one living my life really struck [me]. So I started to live by this. The desire to create garments was/is innate. I partnered with my talented friend Robyn Daly who took photos and we created an exhibition together.
Of course, we didn’t have any right of passage to a gallery, so we took a gallery’s storage room that had a roller door onto Gore Street [in] Fitzroy. We displayed Robyn’s images of my garments with my garments. Julia, who owned Melbourne’s iconic store Dagma Rousette, was walking her dog and stumbled across our humble pop-up/exhibition. She purchased a few pieces and asked me to stock with her. This was the beginning. I had no idea what I was doing!
This was in 2014. I honestly was making everything up. My patterns were made from newspapers. I taught myself by pulling apart old clothes, ironing them and drawing around that. I had no idea what grain, bias or salvage of fabric was. The next four years led to many tears and panic attacks! Stopping and starting again. Google and YouTube became my best friends and I was obsessed with teaching myself everything I needed to know to facilitate my creative outlet.
It is only these past two years that I have not needed another job. I have worked in bars or cafes full time and pretty much spent all my money on Kahe because I loved doing it so much. If you want to be a designer and don’t come from financial security, then you absolutely have to do it for the love. You are tricking yourself if you think you are going to make money. That comes later… like 10 years later.
What were you trying to achieve from the project at the time? How has this evolved and what are you trying to communicate through the brand now?
My first ever collection was called Return Investment. It was based on the idea that there is no such thing as true altruism. I also wanted to provoke thought in the consumer [to consider] why they are consuming. What is their return going to be on purchasing a Kahe piece?
As time has gone on the philosophical side has died down and the more pragmatic approach to creating a collection has strengthened. For example, I am passionate about fits, quality of fabrics and also [the] duality of the garment. This ultimately will give back more tangibly and hopefully lessen consumer waste.
How would you describe Kahe to someone who’s never seen it before?
Kahe is a predominantly womenswear label that focuses on practical beauty. Pieces are inherently inspired by the working class, using mainly suiting and denim.
The tailoring. I worked really hard to make a unique piece to flatter a body comfortably.
What do you wish you knew when you started?
I am happy [with] how everything went. If I knew how hard it was going to be I would have never begun. If I went to uni and was taught their way, I feel I wouldn’t have acquired the intimate knowledge of construction I have now.

Who do you think is most exciting in Australian fashion right now?
Dion Lee and Laura and Deanna Fanning are cutting some serious international recognition at the moment and they deserve it!
What about the Australian fashion industry needs to change?
Tough question. I feel like I am such a tiny tiny part of the industry and I am not too sure if my perception of it is correct. I do think, like any industry, it is linked with social and economic issues and can be used as a platform to guide change. However, I also think Australia is a backwards and stubborn country that tends to give way to conformity.

The future of fashion is unisex.
The demand for genderless fashion is increasing as we embrace the fluidity of gender more and more as a society. With so many experiences of gender out there, why should we be relegated to clothes that conform to such a limited binary of menswear and womenswear?
Of course, the blurring of gender lines is nothing new in fashion. What is somewhat new is our wider societal conversations about gender identity and expression, and our greater understanding of the arbitrary and often harmful effects of a rigid male/female divide.

All is a Gentle Spring
Noting a varied range of inspirations – the renaissance era, theatre and medieval warfare – All is a Gentle Spring designer Isabelle Hellyer wants to create clothing with extravagance. Judging by her latest release of a mesh, tapestry-esque unitard, I’d say she’s achieving it. Beautifully designed and a little magical, Isabelle’s pieces are ‘special occasion’ (or not, the grocery store works too).
Nonplus
For a monochrome moment, Nonplus shouldn’t be overlooked. Designers Maurice Terzini and Gareth Moody came together to create moody, androgynous looks they call ‘sea-punk’. Designed and manufactured in Sydney, Nonplus is focused on sharp tailoring and quality textiles.
“Emsah emerged from a feeling rather than an aesthetic. The urge to touch something tactile and unusual; the feeling of something visceral against your skin.”
Known for its colourful, tie-dyed swimwear, garments and bags, Australian label Emsah has an emphasis on handmade production. Its designer and founder, Emily Martin, strongly values working with her hands and manipulating fabric to create with feeling rather than aesthetics in mind.
But getting her label off the ground wasn’t easy, and she faced a myriad of challenges during the launch of Emsah, not least of all a global pandemic hitting New York hard while she was living there.

Undeterred, Emily tested and experimented with textiles in her studio and the product of these quiet months in lockdown was Emsah’s first capsule collection. Below, Emily details her creative process and how she grew her label and discovered herself in the process.
Tell us about you. What’s your fashion background?
Ultimately, I think of myself as a maker. Since I can remember, I’ve always loved creating, experimenting and working with my hands. I still get a kick out of making objects for home or pieces for myself to wear. My journey in fashion started at the University of Technology, Sydney, where I studied fashion and textile design. At the same time, I worked for many different Australian labels to get my foot in the door of the industry. After graduating starry-eyed, I moved to New York to pursue the idea of gaining more design experience.
Over the following four years, I worked for some NY-based labels before eventually becoming a buyer for Opening Ceremony, which was unexpected but rewarding to be able to discover another side of the fashion world. I was lucky to work with so many talented young emerging brands in this role, which only made my long-time aspiration to launch my own project even stronger.
How did the label get started? Talk us through the process and the challenges.
I grappled with the thought of launching a label for a long time. The moment arrived in New York when I quit my job, wanting to focus on developing my ideas full-time. Almost instantly, the city spiralled into lockdown as the world came to grips with a global pandemic. The energy and atmosphere I’d become familiar with quickly fell dormant. The first capsule collection evolved from the next few quiet months creating and experimenting in my studio with the materials that I had. As with most new projects, Emsah has come with a myriad of challenges.
My process has been very hand driven with a focus on textiles. The designs have emerged from tedious testing and experimenting. I found this to be an extremely rewarding way to develop ideas while tapping into a mode of self-expression. Being able to work this way has been a lot of fun and I want to continue creating one-off pieces. As the label grows, balancing hand-made production with time efficiency becomes more of a challenge. I currently work part-time, while making all pieces to order in my Melbourne studio.
What were you trying to achieve from the project at the time? How has this evolved and what are you trying to communicate through the brand now?
Without any specific direction, Emsah emerged from a feeling rather than an aesthetic. The urge to touch something tactile and unusual; the feeling of something visceral against your skin. I would focus on making swatches, painting and manipulating fabric to create textures and shapes. This evolved into hand-painted swimwear, garments and bags.
My aim was to spark the beginning of an ongoing project that is not limited to creating clothing but rather focused on developing anything or textile technique that is inspiring to me at that time. I am currently working on new items that continue these ideas.
How would you describe Emsah to someone who’s never seen it before?
Emsah is a world of unexpected textures and colour combinations. It is crunchy and slippery and fragile and strong. It can change a mood or make a moment.
Where did the name come from?
Emsah is a nickname my dad has called me my whole life.
What are you most proud of in your work on your label?
To have finally started Emsah as a one-person show. It has been a real process of self-discovery and I am determined to continue creating and working through my process.

I’m generally excited by the community of young local creatives that are putting themselves out there right now. There is a huge demand for locally made fashion that has a unique point of view and a growing community of designers that are steering away from traditional fashion seasons to focus on really experimenting with the things they want to see.

Right now I am very interested in glass blowing. I would love to collaborate with a local glassblowing artist to make accessories or items for Emsah.

All pieces are currently made to order via my website. I also take custom orders via Instagram. [I’ve also previously had a] limited number of handpainted swimwear, scrunchies and bags made in an exclusive colour-way for Suku Home.

Olivia is the founder of Cleopatra’s Bling, the Australian label inspired by travel, stories and the cosmos. Below, Olivia shares her top tips for spotting well-made jewellery.
I hand-carve each design myself out of wax, and the pieces are individually cast. Because I work with [some of the] best craftspeople in the industry, and the integrity of the materials I use are A-grade, we’re able to ensure very long-lasting pieces. I’ve worked for 10 years on my brand to ensure the quality is the highest it can be.
What’s the difference between gold-plated and gold-filled jewellery?
Gold-filled jewellery is composed of a solid layer of gold (typically constituting at least five per cent of the item’s total weight) mechanically bonded to a base of either sterling silver or some base metal.
An equivalent to this would be micron-plated vermeil (which is what we do) which is 3 microns of 24k gold over sterling silver. Gold-plated jewellery can be done in many different ways, some more durable than others. We do micron-plated, gold-plated jewellery, which is very long-lasting… the base metal is nickel and lead-free bronze. In short, it’s about the thickness of the metal over a base metal of some sort.
What’s the difference between lab-grown and natural gemstones? Does one tend to last longer?
Lab-grown means they’re scientifically created in a lab. We use 95 per cent natural gemstones, as they lend themselves more to our aesthetic. Lab-grown stones have a very different look and feel than natural gemstones. The main distinction is natural gems typically have inclusions from the crystallization process — [from] gases and other minerals mixing during the molten stage of stone creation.
Because lab-created stones rely on a steady, controlled process of applying minerals, heat and pressure, they usually have fewer inclusions. Personally, I prefer natural gemstones as I like the texture and contours of the naturally occurring beauty.

I think weight is important. A lot of jewellery feels tinny and cheap. I want my jewellery to feel like it’s strong, with a good quality base metal (in the case of gold-plated and vermeil jewellery). The way stones are set is something I’m learning a lot about, and fast!
Certain stones that are more brittle (like emeralds) need to be set really well and intentionally, keeping in mind the nature of the stone. Clasps on chains and necklaces should be sturdy enough for beaded pieces. That said, jewellery needs to be treated with care as it’s a delicate item.
What are the other elements we should be looking out for to spot well-made pieces?
Make sure the jewellery is stamped if it’s solid gold, silver, or vermeil. It’s illegal to not stamp the base metal if it’s considered a precious or semi-precious metal. Ask questions about the stones – ask if they’re dyed or natural. Once you start paying attention to these things, it will become like second nature to you.

The limited-edition, worldwide drop includes three styles of Havaianas’ comfort-forward classics, all inspired by the bold palette of Rotate’s Spring Summer 2022 collection. Rotate’s signature colours of hot pink and vibrant green are contrasted with a chunky black logo at the toes, perfect for pairing with more understated summer dresses to achieve a careful blend of outgoing and casual.
The collaboration is rounded out by a third pair of thongs in a dark python print, finished with green straps and yellow branding. Each pair also features Havaianas’ signature rubber sole and both brands’ logos on the straps.

Known for its colourful, tie-dyed swimwear, garments and bags, Australian label Emsah has an emphasis on handmade production. Its designer and founder, Emily Martin, strongly values working with her hands and manipulating fabric to create with feeling rather than aesthetics in mind.
But getting her label off the ground wasn’t easy, and she faced a myriad of challenges during the launch of Emsah, not least of all a global pandemic hitting New York hard while she was living there.

Undeterred, Emily tested and experimented with textiles in her studio and the product of these quiet months in lockdown was Emsah’s first capsule collection. Below, Emily details her creative process and how she grew her label and discovered herself in the process.
Tell us about you. What’s your fashion background?
Ultimately, I think of myself as a maker. Since I can remember, I’ve always loved creating, experimenting and working with my hands. I still get a kick out of making objects for home or pieces for myself to wear. My journey in fashion started at the University of Technology, Sydney, where I studied fashion and textile design. At the same time, I worked for many different Australian labels to get my foot in the door of the industry. After graduating starry-eyed, I moved to New York to pursue the idea of gaining more design experience.
Over the following four years, I worked for some NY-based labels before eventually becoming a buyer for Opening Ceremony, which was unexpected but rewarding to be able to discover another side of the fashion world. I was lucky to work with so many talented young emerging brands in this role, which only made my long-time aspiration to launch my own project even stronger.
How did the label get started? Talk us through the process and the challenges.
I grappled with the thought of launching a label for a long time. The moment arrived in New York when I quit my job, wanting to focus on developing my ideas full-time. Almost instantly, the city spiralled into lockdown as the world came to grips with a global pandemic. The energy and atmosphere I’d become familiar with quickly fell dormant. The first capsule collection evolved from the next few quiet months creating and experimenting in my studio with the materials that I had. As with most new projects, Emsah has come with a myriad of challenges.
My process has been very hand driven with a focus on textiles. The designs have emerged from tedious testing and experimenting. I found this to be an extremely rewarding way to develop ideas while tapping into a mode of self-expression. Being able to work this way has been a lot of fun and I want to continue creating one-off pieces. As the label grows, balancing hand-made production with time efficiency becomes more of a challenge. I currently work part-time, while making all pieces to order in my Melbourne studio.
What were you trying to achieve from the project at the time? How has this evolved and what are you trying to communicate through the brand now?
Without any specific direction, Emsah emerged from a feeling rather than an aesthetic. The urge to touch something tactile and unusual; the feeling of something visceral against your skin. I would focus on making swatches, painting and manipulating fabric to create textures and shapes. This evolved into hand-painted swimwear, garments and bags.
My aim was to spark the beginning of an ongoing project that is not limited to creating clothing but rather focused on developing anything or textile technique that is inspiring to me at that time. I am currently working on new items that continue these ideas.
How would you describe Emsah to someone who’s never seen it before?
Emsah is a world of unexpected textures and colour combinations. It is crunchy and slippery and fragile and strong. It can change a mood or make a moment.
Where did the name come from?
Emsah is a nickname my dad has called me my whole life.
What are you most proud of in your work on your label?

Who do you think is most exciting in Australian fashion right now?
I’m generally excited by the community of young local creatives that are putting themselves out there right now. There is a huge demand for locally made fashion that has a unique point of view and a growing community of designers that are steering away from traditional fashion seasons to focus on really experimenting with the things they want to see.
Dream Australian collaborators?
Right now I am very interested in glass blowing. I would love to collaborate with a local glassblowing artist to make accessories or items for Emsah.
How can we buy one of your pieces?
All pieces are currently made to order via my website. I also take custom orders via Instagram. [I’ve also previously had a] limited number of handpainted swimwear, scrunchies and bags made in an exclusive colour-way for Suku Home.

For a growing number of consumers, the days of impulsively buying fast fashion made overseas with environmentally-degrading materials are behind them. How do you define your personal style?
My personal style is a mix of vintage meets modern. I love anything from the ’60s to the ’80s and ’90s. I really like working with different eras together to create outfits that feel authentically me.
What does timeless fashion mean to you?What are your tips for styling a vintage piece with a modern outfit?
My advice would be to pair and style your modern outfits with the era the vintage pieces are from. I will often wear a high-waisted mini skirt with a vintage jacket for a ’60s vibe, or an oversized jumper with bike shorts for more of an ’80s Princess Diana energy.

What’s your favourite piece of your mum’s from the ’80s?
My favourite piece would have to be her vintage suede blazer. It’s timeless, comfy and looks super cute with so many different outfits.
What are your go-to wardrobe staples?
I can’t go past a great pair of vintage jeans or a well-cut vintage blazer. I also love the classic oversized look of my Chambray Shirt – it goes with so many different looks and can be styled super casual or dressed up with a skirt for a more polished look.

My desk space is fun, functional and almost never neat. I usually have tile and grout samples and a colour chart at hand. Pen and paper are essential as I often feel swamped with technology-heavy tasks (invoices, emails, answering DMs) so it’s nice to write clear lists and sketch out designs.
Luckily for me, I get to test out a new desk almost every week as we are often creating custom pieces like this green one. The most important desk essentials I have are water, [a] tape measure and a diary. I will pretty much take them wherever I go.

I would describe my desk space as an organised kind of chaos. My desk itself is relatively spacious, with pens, tea, product samples and print-outs at the edges, and my laptop/monitor in the middle.
The most helpful items are actually those that are stuck beside my desk. I take a lot of value in needing to see what I need to do. As such, reminders, post-its and strategy documents are often found here. I change these over every few weeks; it’s like an ever-evolving to-do list or mood board.

And what better way to celebrate than with a seven-day program dedicated to showcasing the city’s vibrant and diverse fashion community? Yes, it’s that time of year. Melbourne Fashion Week (M/FW) has just released its 2022 program, featuring a series of runways, unique events and experiences spanning from October 10 to 16.

In an effort to celebrate diversity and creativity, this year’s campaign platform is ‘Everyone to the front’, encouraging everybody to come together and express themselves through fashion. And with 300 participating designers, 20 stylists and a host of hairstylists, makeup artists, models and volunteers, everyone’s input is valued.
As with previous years, M/FW will feature a combination of emerging, independent and well-established designers, and will have a focus on championing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, as well as other diverse cultures within Australia’s fashion industry.

This year, M/FW will feature 10 premium runways set in a variety of iconic city venues and will be styled by some of Melbourne’s leading names in fashion. The Urban Garden Runway, held at Wesley Place, will start the week off on October 10 in one of the city’s newest cultural landmarks.
The outdoor runway will commence with a Welcome to Country curated by Creative Director, Nina Fitzgerald, and will showcase new collections from designers including Acler, Gorman, Ngali, Kuwaii and more.
That evening, the Fashion x Art Runway, taking place at the breathtaking State Library, will showcase some of Fashion Journal‘s favourite emerging designers, like Alix Higgins and Moss Tunstall, as well as established designers Arnsdorf, Verner, Strateas Carlucci and others.
For those who have embraced the return of Y2K maximalism and ’90s styling, look no further than the Dockside Runway on October 11. Head to Shed 21 in Docklands for the contemporary fashion runway, and enjoy innovative and forward-thinking looks from Erik Yvon, HoMie, Szn, Suku Home, Toilé Studios and The Social Studio, among others.
If you’re the type who would prefer some wining and dining while enjoying your fashion, stop in at the Queen Victoria Market Dairy Hall Runway on October 12. Sit back with a grazing plate as you take in crisp, modern styles from the likes of Elk, Veronika Maine and more. Or, if you prefer over-the-top silhouettes and bold designs, visit the Student Collections Runway at Meat Market, with collections from the next big names in fashion.
Make sure you add the Emporium Melbourne Hidden Runway to your must-see list – located in a hidden space in Emporium Melbourne, this Runway will champion high-end Australian design, with iconic labels like Bassike, Bec and Bridge, Manning Cartell, Oroton and Viktoria and Woods.
Featuring some incredible emerging and established First Nations designers including Adjadura, Gammin Threads, Nungala Creative, Paul McCann and more, the Ganbu Marra Runway (First Nations Runway) will be another M/FW highlight.

Presented in collaboration with Creative Victoria, the M/FW Conversations series on October 13 will offer thought-provoking and forward-thinking discussions. Led by the Australian Fashion Council, Driving Demand – The Australian Fashion Campaign will unpack the world-first campaign and trademark and how it was tasked with promoting Australian fashion to both local and international customers.
